Bob Russell MP outside No. 10
Colchester MP Bob Russell has delivered a Petition to 10 Downing Street protesting at the Government's policies which have led to the closure of hundreds of Post Offices across the country - including three recently in Colchester at North Station Road, Pownall Crescent and Parsons Heath.
Mr Russell is photographed outside No.10 with a box full of petitions protesting at the closure programme. He has written to Essex County Council to ask that, as part of the Council's plans to help save community Post Offices from closure, that they consider supporting the re-opening of the three Colchester branches which shut a few weeks' ago.
The Town's Liberal Democrat MP has been a strong opponent over the closure of Post Offices. Half those in Colchester have been shut since the Labour Government was elected in 1997, leaving the town with just 11 Sub-Post Offices.
