Colchester Borough Council have won plaudits for their environmental focus, after a survey by Friends of the Earth and www.locallife.co.uk ranked Colchester as the 13th Greenest Borough in thttp://www.bobrussell.org.uk/manage/editarticles.phphe country.
Local information website www.locallife.co.uk described the borough as boasting more environmentally-friendly businesses, organisations and representatives than any other of a comparable size.
Lib Dem Cllr. Nigel Offen, Cabinet Member for resources and business, explains the work the Council have done:
"We, as a council, have reduced our carbon emissions a lot in the past year and we have plans to reduce them even further next year.
"Colchester has won 'cycling town status' and we are doing a lot to build more cycle routes in the town to offer people an alternative to the car, to reduce congestion and air pollution in the town centre
"We are also extending our very good recycling scheme to flats across the borough, which will allow more people to recycle."
All this has been achieved by the Lib Dem led coalition running Colchester Borough Council without the need for a single Green Councillor on the Council. This just shows that if you want practical environmental solutions, the Liberal Democrats are leading the way.
