The 50th Anniversary of the end of the four-year Cyprus Emergency, during which 371 members of HM Armed Forces lost their lives, has been commemorated by a special Motion in the House of Commons Tabled by Colchester MP Bob Russell.
His Motion follows the unveiling on Remembrance Sunday of a permanent memorial in the Old British Cemetery in Kyrenia.
The Cyprus Emergency lasted from 1955 to 1959. Many of those who lost their lives were National Service conscripts. Those who died were 274 from the Army, 28 Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and 69 Royal Air Force.
