Colchester MP Bob Russell has challenged the Government over its failure to organise a public meeting in the town over proposals to build a new nuclear power station at Bradwell.
Liberal Democrat Mr Russell has Tabled two Parliamentary Questions to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, the Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP.
His first Question asks Mr Miliband to arrange for an exhibition and public meeting to be held in the Colchester constituency to discuss the proposals, and his second Question asks what criteria were used for choosing locations for exhibitions and public meetings.
Mr Russell said: "Although Bradwell is not in my constituency, as the crow flies - and fallout from any nuclear disaster would blow - the distance to Colchester is not that many miles. The town has a population of in excess of 100,000 people. For us not to be formally consulted by the Government is a disgrace. I am hoping that my Parliamentary Questions will prompt the Government to change its mind, and agree to engage the people of Colchester in this very important debate."
