Bob Russell with Nick Clegg at Colchester railway station. Liberal Democrats are pushing for the government to invest in 700 new train carriages to ease the congestion on our main rail routes
Users of the main line railway between Colchester and London can look forward to more carriages and an improvement to Colchester North Station, Town MP Bob Russell told the House of Commons on December 3rd.
He made his comments during Transport Questions after another MP had asked Transport Minister, and Ipswich MP Chris Mole, when he had last met representatives of train operating companies serving East Anglia. Mr Mole said that he had a meeting planned for later in the month.
Liberal Democrat Mr Russell then told the House that he had a meeting on Tuesday this week, at the House of Commons, with a representative of National Express East Anglia. Mr Russell urged Mr Mole to ensure that the Government would support proposals for improvements to the railway service between Ipswich and London Liverpool Street via Colchester, through additional trains, more carriages and a major upgrade of the facilities at North Station.
