Bob Russell MP pledges to "do his bit" for British Armed Forces

December 9, 2009 12:00 AM

Bob Russell, MP for Colchester, has pledged to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family.

The Garrison Town MP made the pledge on The Royal British Legion's campaign website for its General Election manifesto. He also met a delegation from the Legion in the Houses of Parliament to discuss the Manifesto and the changes that The Legion is calling for.

The manifesto sets out priorities for the next Government to improve conditions for the British Armed Forces - past and present - and their families. It encourages MPs to "do their bit" for Service personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependants.

Mr Kevin Shinkwin, The Legion's Head of Public Affairs, said, "We're really grateful to Mr Russell for pledging to do his bit. Our message to every MP and candidate standing at the General Election is very simple: 'It's time to do your bit'.

"The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties," he added. "Our manifesto outlines practical ways the next government can help, and we hope all the parties will give it serious consideration".

Mr Russell, who is a Parliamentary Advisor to The Royal British Legion, said: "I am delighted to support The Royal British Legion. They have an important role to play in highlighting the needs of the whole Armed Forces family. I have pledged to do my bit and would encourage everyone to do the same by visiting the General Election Manifesto website - www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk - to find out more."

If you are a resident of the Colchester constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
