Colchester MP Bob Russell is among a group of 30 MPs calling on the Government to make St George's Day - 23rd April - a Public Holiday.
He has signed a Parliamentary Motion saying that the day of England's Patron Saint should be celebrated with a Public Holiday and that the flag of St George should be flown from both public and private buildings.
Liberal Democrat Mr Russell has established something of a tradition by flying, on their respective day, the flags of the Patron Saints of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland outside his constituency offices at Magdalen Hall, Wimpole Road, Colchester. He also flies the Union Flag on appropriate occasions.
He said: "The flag of St George will be flown on Friday 23rd April, as in past years, at my offices. Celebrating St George's Day is nothing new for me - the Scout Movement always celebrates St George's Day, and I can recall going on my first parade more than 50 years ago. Flying the flag is not new either - what is new is the campaign for St George's Day to be made a Public Holiday."
