Sir Bob Russell MP and other MPs from the East of England meet the Secretary of State for Transport to discuss rail services
Colchester Liberal Democrat MP Sir Bob Russell was among a dozen MPs from the East of England who have had a meeting at the House of Commons with Transport Secretary Ms Justine Greening MP to urge the Coalition Government to adopt a new Rail Prospectus for the counties of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
It follows the launch of the Prospectus this week and a special debate in which Sir Bob was one of those who spoke in support of investment in the railways in this part of the country.
Afterwards Sir Bob said: "I pay tribute to my Coalition MP colleagues from across East Anglia for working together to produce a unanimous set of proposals which, if we can get the Government to agree, will provide the biggest boost to the railways of our region in more than 100 years.
"There is good news for every part of East Anglia. For Colchester, not only does the Prospectus include a guarantee of no reduction in the frequency of Inter-City trains stopping at Colchester North there is also the prospect of improved services from the three stations in my constituency - North, Colchester Town and The Hythe. That is what I am pushing for."
