Sir Bob’s Middle East peace call

November 20, 2012 3:00 PM

Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell has urged Foreign Secretary Mr William Hague MP to contact an American-based Jewish group in the hope that they may be able to act as the catalyst to bring peace in the Middle East and stop the bloody confrontation between Israel and Palestinians.

He told the House of Commons this afternoon: "Noting that the International Community has failed the Palestinian people for the past 64 years, will the Foreign Secretary contact the Jewish Voice of Peace, based in Oakland, California?

"Perhaps their programme could provide a catalyst for a peaceful future for Israel and Palestine."

Responding, Mr Hague he would consider the point which Sir Bob had made.

The Jewish Voice for Peace has brought together people of different faiths - Jews, Christians and Muslims - together with human rights activists to call on President Obama not to assist Israel while that country "engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations."

Liberal Democrat Sir Bob has already signed the Jewish Voice for Peace open letter to President Obama ahead of his inauguration for a second four-year term as President of the United States.
