With 26 seats, the Liberal Democrats are the largest group in the coalition running Colchester Borough Council. Labour have just 7 seats and the Highwoods Independents 3, with the opposition Conservatives having 24 seats. The coalition took control of the Council following a disastrous set of elections for the Conservative Party in May 2008 following months of inaction over the proposed Visual Arts Facility. The Liberal Democrats won 3 additional Council seats off the Conservatives in the 2010 elections - making us the biggest Party in the Borough Council.
