12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 3rd May 2007

With the local elections now over, Colchester MP Bob Russell has called on residents to unite and "Vote for Colchester" in a national election to choose new locations for the famous Monopoly board game.

Monopoly are looking to replace the traditional London only locations which the popular game has featured for more than 70 years. They are giving the public a chance to vote for Colchester to have a place on a new version of Monopoly.

Mr Russell today urged Colchester residents to vote for the town. He said: "There are many reasons why I feel that my home town should appear on the new Monopoly board, but I guess the strongest argument - which I have put forward with my own vote - is that we are Britain's Oldest Recorded Town and the First Capital of Roman Britain."

People can vote for Colchester by visiting the Monopoly website www.monopoly.co.uk.
