Russell visits Olympic site

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 25th Jul 2007

Colchester MP Bob Russell has met Lord Seb Coe, who is heading the London 2012 Olympics, and visited the site of the Olympic Games at Stratford in East London where he was given a detailed explanation of the huge complex of what will be the Olympic Village, on which work is already underway.

Mr Russell, a former Sports Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, is a keen supporter of the London Olympics and believes that it will be of considerable benefit to the Colchester area both in terms of easy access for local residents wishing to attend the Games and also for overseas competitors and supporters who will be less than an hour away from Colchester which they can visit as tourists.

He added: "This is a once in a life-time opportunity for Colchester to experience, and benefit from, the Olympic Games. I am determined to do my bit, as the Town's MP, to ensure that we do everything we can to take advantage."
