12.00.00am GMT Thu 1st Nov 2007

Colchester MP Bob Russell is one of the co-sponsors of a House of Commons Motion which calls on the Government to give "Fair Pay for Police Officers."

The cross-party Motion has now been signed by 160 Members of Parliament.

Mr Russell is a Liberal Democrat member of the Home Affairs Select Committee. He is also a Graduate of the Police Service Parliamentary Scheme.

The Motion recognises the bravery and hard work of the Police and commends Police Officers for adopting to meet the diverse challenges asked of them.

It calls on the Home Office "to recognise the unique role of the Office of Constable" and ensure that UK Police Officers are given a fair pay settlement which reflects the daily dangers they face. It notes that Police are prohibited from taking industrial action in support of their calls for a fairer pay deal.
