Colchester Liberal DemocratsFollowing the elections on Thursday 3rd May 2007 and the defection of two Councillors to join the Conservatives, Colchester's Liberal Democrat Group remain as the opposition on Colchester Borough Council with 19 seats. The Conservatives have 32 seats, Labour just 6 and the Highwoods Independents have 3. This year's election results from Colchester Borough Council. The Liberal Democrats won the seat of Wivenhoe Cross from the Conservatives, with new Councillor Mark Cory becoming the youngest ever member of the Borough Council. Cllr Lesley Scott-Boutell held Stanway with an increased majority over the Conservatives, while Nick Barlow held off a national Green challenge to be elected as the new Councillor for Castle Ward. Also re-elected were Liberal Democrat Cllrs Anne Turrell (Mile End), Barrie Cook (St Anne's), Martin Hunt (Christ Church) and Margaret Fisher (New Town). Martin Hunt has been chosen as the new Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, with Anne Turrell remaining as Deputy Leader. The Liberal Democrats remain the largest party in terms of both seats (17 out of 35) and the votes within the new boundaries of the Colchester Parliamentary constituency.
